Meet Our Staff

Prevention Plus opened its first clinic in Morgan City, Louisiana in April, 2014 with one goal in mind: to provide preventive healthcare, evaluation, and treatment that surpasses "standard of care." Prevention Plus Clinics use a personalized, advanced approach to patient evaluation and care. We are driven to provide the highest level of healthcare.

Peter M. Abel, M.S., M.D., FACC

Preventive Cardiologist, Clinical Lipidologist

A resident of St. Mary Parish for over 26 years, Dr. Abel is a native of New York State. He received a Bachelor of Science at Florida State University and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. He earned his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University/ Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. His post-graduate training includes internship, residency and a cardiology fellowship at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.​

Dr. Abel has served as a staff cardiologist, head-section of Cardiology at Ochsner Clinic, and medical director for the Cardiac Rehabilitation facility at Ochsner Baton Rouge. He started and was co-director of the Ochsner Interdisciplinary Lipid Service. For the past twenty-five years, he has served patients and the medical community as an invasive/interventional cardiologist. He has made numerous presentations throughout the United States on various aspects of preventive cardiology. He has served as Medical Adviser for the Louisiana Association of Exercise Physiologists and Clinical Assistant Professor for Cardiology at Tulane University School of Medicine.

Dr. Abel is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and has been honored as a Diplomat of Clinical Lipidology by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He is also board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases (Cardiology) and Clinical Lipidology. He is one of few physicians with the training required to specialize in both preventive cardiology and lipidology.

William A. Cefalu, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Cefalu is a lifelong resident of Morgan City, Louisiana. He graduated with honors from Central Catholic High School in 2001. Dr. Cefalu then pursued his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science, cum laude honors. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. During this time, Dr. Cefalu was awarded the Rural Scholars Track Scholarship, given his commitment to return to rural Louisiana and provide high-quality patient care. He then pursued an internal medicine residency at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Cefalu has been extensively involved in community service. He currently serves as the assistant chairman of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee and chairman of the patient’s safety and quality committee at Teche Regional Medical Center. Dr. Cefalu was recently honored by the Saint Mary Parish Foundation as the 2016 role model for medicine.

Dr. Cefalu joined the Prevention Plus team in December 2015. His interests include obesity/weight management, diabetes reversal, and cardiovascular disease risk reduction. In addition to his interests in preventative medicine, Dr. Cefalu offers a wide variety of services in internal medicine. These services include acute care, minor surgical procedures in-office, and management of patients with multiple complex medical issues.

Dr. Cefalu currently serves as the physician director of Nursing Care Home Health and as a hospice physician with Heart of Hospice.

Krysten Perque, APRN, FNP

Nurse Practitioner

Krysten Perque has always been interested in changing other’s lives for the better. From a young age, she aspired to be a caregiver. She made that dream a reality when she graduated from Nicholls State University in 2008 with her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She desired to have a greater influence on the health care outcomes for her patients and chose to move forward and obtain her master's degree. In 2012 she graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a family nurse practitioner degree and was board-certified soon after. She has experience in med surge, critical care, recovery room, internal medicine, and specialized training in cardiac and heart health issues. She has worked alongside Dr. Abel for the past two years, absorbing the wealth of knowledge that he has graciously offered. She is a member of the National Lipid Association and LANP, Houma Chapter, and is currently working towards certification in lipidology. She is happily married and the mother of two children. She is excited to give back to the Thibodaux community that has given so much to her.

Angela Doiron, APRN, FNP

Nurse Practitioner

Angela is a board-certified advanced nurse practitioner specializing in family practice. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Angela holds a national board certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the National Lipid Association. She is currently working on her national certification in clinical lipidology. She has served as a regional representative for the Houma chapter of LANP. Her career began as a critical care nurse caring for patients recovering from major surgeries and traumas. Over the past fifteen years, she has served the local community by providing quality healthcare as a nurse practitioner in the areas of pediatrics, neurology/rehabilitation, and family practice. Angela’s passion lies in helping people lead longer, healthier lives through preventive medicine. She is married with three children. In her free time, she enjoys fitness, offshore fishing, and outdoor activities.
